Bamboo is an elegant evergreen plant. Due to its fast-growing nature, it’s considered one of the best plants for screening or hedging. Whether you want to create a natural border or define zones within your garden, we sell a variety of bamboo screening plants that can be delivered across the UK.

With their distinctive bright green or yellow canes, if arranged correctly, they can create a tranquil, shady spot for your garden or outdoor spaces.

Bamboo Plants For Screening & Privacy

There are two main varieties of bamboo: clumping and running. Clumping bamboo is non-invasive so is often preferred for screening. It clumps and tends to stay in a defined area. Growth is also more gradual and easily controlled.

Soil, climate and available space will all play a key part in your choice of bamboo plant. They don’t require much maintenance, but some varieties are hardier than others.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast does bamboo grow for screening?

Some varieties of bamboo can grow as fast as a couple of inches a day! Running bamboo generally grows around 90cm to one metre a year.

What is the best bamboo for screening?

Clumping bamboo varieties are best for screening. This is because it is less invasive so can be more easily formed into a neat screen.

How far apart should I plant bamboo?

To form a decent screening effect, bamboo should be spaced 3-5 feet apart. Faster spreading types should be planted farther apart - just bear in mind that you will be waiting a little longer for the screen to fill out.
